CNFans Puffer Jacket Sizing: Leave Room for Layers
A puffer already has volume built into its shape. Choosing a larger label can add useful layering room, or it can make the shoulders and hem look unnecessarily loose. Check where the bulk is coming from before deciding.
Separate insulation from extra size
A padded jacket can look large because of its filling and quilting, not because it is too big for you. Compare the actual chest, shoulder and sleeve measurements with a puffer or coat that fits well. The outside outline is useful context, but it cannot replace the figures.
Some puffers are cut close to the body, while others are designed to sit away from it. The same nominal size may therefore leave different room for a sweatshirt. Read the silhouette in the photos, then use the listing measurements to decide whether the look is achievable for your frame.
How much layering room do you need?
Start with the thickest layer you expect to wear underneath most often. A T-shirt and a thin knit need less space than a fleece hoodie. Put that layer on, measure a coat that closes comfortably over it and use the result as your reference rather than adding a random amount.
Check the upper arm and armhole as well as the chest. A puffer may close across the body but still pull when you reach forward. A little extra room through the sleeve is helpful; excessive shoulder width can make the jacket feel heavy and change how the hood sits.
The measurements that matter most
For a puffer, prioritise shoulder construction, chest width, sleeve length, body length and hem width. Quilted horizontal sections can make the jacket feel shorter when filled, so compare body length with another padded garment rather than a flat overshirt.
A ribbed or elasticated hem may gather the excess and keep warmth in, but it does not make a very wide jacket fit like a regular one. If the product has a fixed hem, take that width seriously when checking whether you will wear it open or closed.
When not to size up
Do not move up simply because the jacket looks puffy in the product photos. If the shoulders of the reference and listing already match, the filling may provide the visual volume you want. A larger size can create long sleeves, a low armhole and a hem that sits below the proportion shown.
A close-fitting puffer may also be designed for a neat urban layer rather than a thick hoodie. If you want that look, choose the size closest to your reference measurements and use a thinner base layer instead of forcing the coat to accommodate everything.
